1. Is it possible to weld the steel used by HPC to manufacture their gears?

It is possible to weld the steel used by HPC to manufacture their gears. The steels used where case hardening is required are AF34C10 and 12NC15. Where hardening or tempering is required, AF60C40 or 35NCD6 steels are available.  If you need to weld any of our gears, we would advise you to contact us for full details.

2. Have the gears shown in the catalogue been heat treated?

The standard steel gears proposed in our catalogue are not heat treated, this leaves you the possibility to modify them easily if required.  Heat treatment is available as an option on request. AF34C10 and 12NC15 steels are suitable for carburizing. Once case-hardened, they will have a surface hardness of 55-60 HRC and 57-62 HRC respectively.

The AF60C40 and 35NCD6 steels are suitable for through-hardening and will have a surface hardness of 40-45 HRC.
